As he picked up the microphone and made his way to the center of the room the entire crowd fell silent. He had just given away his daughter. She was no longer the little girl that made friends by just walking in to the neighbors house. She was a bright, kind, amazing woman and she had found the man that was made just for her.
He looked out at the guests, composing himself. He had to make it through his speech. For her. He would do anything for her.
And as his voice cracked and he raised his glass he couldn’t think of a moment where he was more proud to be her father. He couldn’t wait to see what her new life would hold. He was so thankful she had found Nick. And finally, as everyone around him raised their glasses, he wished his daughter well, knowing she would do amazing things with her best friend by her side.
Every wedding day is filled with little details. From the dress, to the colors, to the location they picked. Everything says a little something about the couple. Who they are, where they came from, and what is important to them as they start this new chapter of their love story.
But there is one thing that always tells more about the couple than any other part of the day.
Because, this is the only time in the day that you get a glimpse of who they really are when not in a tux and dress. This is when I learn about all the reasons why so many amazing people set aside their weekend to celebrate with them.
Hearing how Nick helped Michelle’s best friend because it meant so much to her. How they both made friends with everyone, weather it was their “enemy” in college or another couple in the church.
Learning how Nick moved to lead a new church, leaving everything he knew behind and how Michelle moved in the same way for Nick.
By the time their friends and family were done there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. And my love for these two people had only grown.
I can’t really put into words how kind, loving and carefree Michelle and Nick are. All I know is that every time I see them I find new things to love about them.
Their marriage is going to be the kind that books are written about. Their love is going to outlast them by decades. And their friends and family are supporting in a way that just blows you away.
Thank you both for inviting me into your day and once again reminding me just how much fun love can be.
